There’s a lot going on in this story, with two competing plot lines. One of them is pretty improbable and seems to come from out of left field. For both to happen at once? No. It’s just a bit too far fetched, continuing Riley’s issue just for the sake of creating drama at the end of the story. No way would a kid with Logan’s experiences and trust issues fall for that crap.I have also become increasingly disappointed in this author’s continued descent into preachiness rather than storytelling. It really pulls me out of the story. Stop over-explaining to me how I’m supposed to think or feel about what’s going on and just let the moment happen on its own. I found myself skimming this one a lot. I have to agree with other reviewers who have said that these stories often get very preachy about subject matters. It’s the way the characters talk to each other, it’s like they mean to say it to us, the readers. Admonishing, chastising, preachy. And that’s just about the regular stuff. The author also delves into heavy subject matter like, ex-boyfriend emotional/mental abuse and sexual assault in school, but then doesn’t follow through. It’s really weird. For example, the ex trying to force his way into her apartment while she was in Oz’s apt with his young nephew. She has her phone but does NOTHING but hide. I mean, I was floored. Who wouldn’t use their phone to call the police and the Delta boyfriend uncle? She just hid and made Logan hear all the awful abusive language the ex boyfriend spewed out. And, please...the school...omg. In this day and age....are you kidding me?!? No way, no how, would the principal or school be allowed to get away with turning the other cheek. All Oz had to do was threaten to go to the school board or newspaper. And, by not saying anything, they allowed the bully to get away with his sexual abuse on that girl. Then, there’s the surprise in the story when Logan tells Oz something he’s been keeping a secret. I just rolled my eyes because there’s not a chance that Oz wouldn’t have been told this by either CPS or police. And when they got to the house and saw what happened, I was like...geez...salt the earth much. Not yet though because that’s what happens with the ex boyfriend. Wow, his ending storyline was total overkill. I just feel like with the way the author is so sanctimonious about the regular behavior, to write the main characters in such a passive way when it comes to the big stuff is just aggravating and weird. I started skimming so much to just get through the story. Well, I finally finished. Not much regarding Delta stuff. I didn’t like Riley. She was a weak character. It’s so hit or miss with this author. Some books are riveting and fun to read. Some, like this one, just ridiculous and tedious. Oh well.
